Dry Needling

Dry Needling Mitchelstown

Dry Needling is available at Revive Physiotherapy Mitchelstown.  The aim of Dry Needling is to reduce muscle pain and dysfunction by releasing oversensitive areas in the muscle known as myofascial trigger points.

Trigger points can be a source of pain and can commonly refer pain to different areas. Trigger points can develop as a result of overloading a muscle, overuse, or when the body is in a stressed and tense state.

What To Expect During Dry Needling Treatment

When the needle is inserted into the trigger point, the muscle will often undergo a localised contraction known as a ‘twitch’. You may also feel a deep aching in the muscle, both of which are normal reactions and will result in therapeutic benefit from the technique.  You may feel a slight sensation when the needle inserts and withdraws but patients have not reported any discomfort during needle manipulation.

 Dry Needling

Research shows that the use of Dry Needling increases the pain threshold at trigger points and can speed up the recovery process more efficiently than massage alone.  It is suitable for a wide variety of musculoskeletal issues such as shoulder, neck, heel hip and back pain.  Dry Needling at Revive Physiotherapy Mitchelstown is used in conjunction with other treatment techniques to give the best possible outcome for patients.

After a session of Dry Needling, you should feel a change in the tone of the affected muscle, which will result in improved movement and a reduction in pain.  At Revive Physiotherapy our physiotherapists are highly trained in Dry Needling and are happy to discuss any questions you may have.

If you are not a fan of needles, don’t worry! There are many other techniques that we can use to help restore pain-free function e.g. Deep Tissue Massage.
